Bang! You're Brain-Dead

Bang! You're Brain-Dead...
By Mark Norris

don't  watch morning talk shows much. They clutter the air and my thoughts. But while in grad school I caught a promo on one of the major networks inviting America to "see Alaska" every day that week. So I set my VCR.

The first day I watched the news, then forwarded through everything until I saw my first stretch of rugged mountain peeks. I enjoyed the view. So I set the machine up again. But the next day's news stung me good. The program aired a New York City convenience store's security camera footage of an actual murder that occurred the day before.

There was the murderer, holding the store clerk at gun point demanding the money from the till. Suddenly, the customer standing next to the murderer lunged at the thug in a heroic attempt to disarm him. But it didn't work and the man found himself in a desperate running struggle for his life. Arms flailing, the two crisscrossed camera view until the murderer finally broke free, stuck his gun in the man's side, and ran out of camera sight.

No sound accompanied the film, and the last thing you saw was the out-stretched corpse of the would-be-hero with his legs contracting upward next to a growing pool of black and white blood.

When the broadcast cut back, the program host really miffed me.

"The would-be hero, tragically died during the incident," he announced, "and the man who shot the gun has not been found."

The man who shot the gun has not been found? I thought. Why didn't he say, "the murderer who killed the man is still at large?"

Peeved by this network ninny, I rewound the video to see if I got it right. Did he really mean the "gun" in this shocking film, not "the man," killed the would-be hero? I watched it again and again, and it seemed so. Why not say the gun that shot the man was taken by its owner and is no where to be found?

In the wake of that startling mid-1990s broadcast public school shootings rocked American culture and the network ninnies were surer than ever that guns, not the murderers who shoot them, were responsible for their murdered dead.

When two Jonesboro, Arkansas, kids ambushed their elementary school classmates in 1998 the networks whined, "How could these two innocent waifs have been corrupted by such murderous weapons?"

When two demented teens strolled into Columbine High cafeteria in 1999 systematically executing blacklisted classmates and anyone else who lined up in their sights, the network ninnies and their political sponsors accused guns again.

"Those poor misguided trench coat mafia waifs were victimized by the evil gun dealer who forced that semi-automatic pistol in their hands."

When that deranged maniac walked into an Amish Lancaster county PA school house, binding and executing those poor little girls, the brain-dead again demanded an arrest of guns, not criminals.

The day I watched that televised murder was the first time I engaged close up the frightening machinations of the mind-numbing liberal gun-control left. And I saw them over and over again throughout the ensuing years of our nation's new gun-control-happy White House. Every time a fresh tragedy raised its head, there they were bringing up the rear of their media advocates pushing for new legislation to make it tougher and even illegal for law abiding American citizens to own guns.

GUNS Aren't the Issue

Only the lobotomized understand this form of reasoning. The rest of us who've never gone under the knife understand handguns don't seethe in their storage cases waiting to victimize terrorists, robbers, and thugs. Guns aren't the issue. Human nature is the issue. So is the rule of law.

Ask a convicted murderer doing time in your state's local pen if he bought the .44 caliber he committed his crimes with from a federal firearms licensee retail gun dealer. Ask him if a waiting period or gun locks would have altered his career. If he was a felon on parole when he shot dead his victim, ask if he filled out the proper forms when "purchasing" his gun.

Then check into the role models provided child murderers, like the six-year-old boy who brought his father's hand gun to school in 1999 and killed a six-year-old girl. Would this kid's drug-dealing father make sure his trigger locks were on?

Then look somewhere in your neighborhood at the role model a responsible parent is demonstrating and see if the hand gun he or she purchased for home protection or hunting isn't kept locked up somewhere away from their child's wandering eyes.

Who's Pulling the Trigger?

Despite the gun-control-crazy media's wild-eyed claims that guns mesmerize humans to wantonly kill; guns don't kill people, people kill people. And when they do, it's usually planned.

When those two depraved sixth graders ambushed their grade school peers during recess in Jonesboro, Arkansas, they knew what they were doing. So did the kids who shot schoolmates dead in Paduka, Kentucky, Springfield, Oregon, and Littleton, Colorado. These young murderers understood the power of
the weapons they carried illegally to school. They knew what the loaded ammunition could do when discharged. So did the man "who shot the gun" in the convince store film, and every terrorist and thug since firearms appeared in the13th Century.

The same inanimate steel used by child and adult murderers is used by police departments around the world to arrest the actions of criminals who use guns to terrorize and kill. So the fundamental issue of practical gun control really isn't based on the availability of guns. It's based on who's pulling gun triggers, and why they're doing it.

                                          Criminals and Guns

There are varied reasons why human beings grow up to become murdering thugs.  The social stigmas of indoctrinating environments, peer group pressure, and even genetics play scientifically proven roles (see For Many of USA's Inmates, Crime Runs in the Family). Sin is a diabolical force that has filled the obituaries of world history since Cain murdered Able. For those who choose to prey off civilization using firearms vocationally, society has set in motion some specific criminal laws. And not all of them are geared for after-the-fact acts. Current gun laws can jail would-be murderers before they end up on "Good Morning America" convenience store film."Operation Exile" initiated in Richmond, Virginia, proved that in the 1990s. Moving to enforce current gun laws, special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives initiated a simple enforcement program that produced a 30 percent increase in arrests of violent criminals. They achieved this by simply enforcing existing gun laws on the books. The Armed Career Criminal Act of 1986 (Public Law 99-570) put the hammer down on felon firearms possession. It  states: “It shall be unlawful for any person [to possess a firearm] —  who has been convicted in any court of law for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.”  In other words, if you’re a convicted felon and found with a gun, you go back to jail. ATF simply enforced the law. Simple as that.

Today, the Department of Justice's "Operation Safe Streets" is continuing "Exile's" work on a national level, focusing on criminals and guns, with the same increasing results.

Any rational, brain-functioning human has to admit that controlling guns from the hands of those most apt to commit acts of gun violence, not from the hands of law abiding citizens, is intelligent, brain-functioning gun control. The Bush Department of Justice was serious about the Second Amendment and enforcing gun laws. But now they're gone.

Bang! You're Jolly Brain-Dead!
Following the UK's Yellow Brick Road

"Trigger locks today, triggers tomorrow" is the winding gun-control path our liberal wing in Congress is staggering along. They're back in power again, and this time if brain-functioning America doesn't stand up for the Constitutional presedent set in the Washington D.C. gun ownership judgment ratified in 2008 (liberals don't believe in the power of law, but in the power of revisionist legislation), they just might pull it off. It's already happened in "free" England.

The authoritarian clamp down on firearms ownership in England today is the epitome of realized, left-wing brain-dead gun control. Currently in the United Kingdom, firearms are illegal, their socialized health care system is a bureaucratic nightmare, and it's their socialist quagmire our "man who shot the gun" network ninnies and their political sponsors want to bring over here.

Recent gun death tragedies in Europe and tightening gun laws (See Teen kills 15 in Germany before taking own life and After Attacks, Europe Hurries to Tighten Gun Laws) shows every one of the gun laws listed reflect intelligent direction at who's pulling the triggers, not inanimate triggers. But not in brain-dead England.

News of their 2004 government ban on fox hunting represented the piece de resistance of Britain's years of progressive gun-control foisted against the will of their people. Their liberal-dominant parliament banned semi-automatic and pump action rifles (including shotguns) in 1989. This happened following the 1987 rampage of a demented murderer who killed his mother and fifteen other people with an assault rifle, before turning it on himself.

They tightened the noose even further in 1997 by banning all handguns above .22 caliber after another murderer shot sixteen school children and their teacher dead in Dunblane, Scotland.

"Good heavens, look what these bloody guns are doing," said Britain's brain-dead elite. "We must surely make them illegal, take them out of the hands of law abiding citizens, so only criminals who don't obey the law can own them. Jolly good." And that's what the British Parliament did when they signed into law the 1997 Firearms (Amendment) Act. The Act banned all centre-fire pistols above .22 caliber, allowing .22 ownership for only those willing to keep them locked down in licensed pistol clubs. But it didn't happen overnight. Other gun licensing and carrying bans that led to Britain's current firearms ban date back the 1920 Firearms Act that introduced government gun ownership approval and licensing. Not a bad idea on the surface. Background checks and licensing are intelligent. But look where it led.

                                               Report!

So, how'd they do? Does illegalization of hand guns curtail violent gun crime?

In his 2001 UPI article, "Did British Gun Control Work?," gun statistics author Iain Murray reported, NO: "While crime fell dramatically during the 1990s in the United States and most of the rest of the world, it has remained steady in Britain and Australia.

"The number of armed policeman has doubled and gun crimes in Britain are increasing. These are still small figures in comparison to the United States, but the trend is the opposite of what might be expected," Murray concluded

Another British article published in the February 23, 2001 edition of "The London Telegraph" reported that 26 percent (one in four) of those living in England and Wales had been crime victims in 1999. In the article, British Secretary Jack Straw admitted, "levels of victimization are higher than in most comparable countries for most categories of crime."

And a January 2006 Independent English online article reported that capital gun crimes in England have increased by 50 percent.  Since then gun crime has increased annually (English 2007 Gun Crime Up 4% - Figures).

Bighting the Brain-Dead's Bullet
Poor Farmer Martin

Late 20th Century news surrounding the prosecution of a UK breaking and entry victim who protected himself with an unlicensed firearm revived the case of farmer Tony Martin. His 1999 story published in This Is London, "Farmer Guilty of Murdering Burglar," added insult to England's injury. The article told the mind-numbing story of this law abiding English farmer who was convicted of murder by his brain-dead elite for killing one of two robbers who broke into his Norfolk farmhouse.

Martin says he was stirred from his sleep by the robbers and fired into the brightness of their flashlights when they aimed them at his face. The farmer, who had been burgled before, received life for killing one of the intruders, and an "additional" 10 years for wounding the dead robber's accomplice. The additional charge was levied because his 12 gauge shotgun was illegal, and because he shot with "intent to kill."

Other British reports claim the 1996 outbreak of mad cow disease was due to Britain's forbiddance of its farmers to own the kind of vocational-protective firearms (shotguns, rifles, and pistols) that could have prevented the malady's spread.

Farmer Martin was released after his sentence was eventually reduced to manslaughter, and today debates the subject in private and public forums.

And Then, There Was Moore...

Renowned left-wing propagandist Michael Moore added his brain-dead 2 cents in his “oscar-winning” 2002 gun-control advocacy film (which most rational shipwreck castaways wouldn't use to lash up their rafts). In his signature boorish advocacy drivel, Moore in, “Bowling for Columbine”, impishly avoids the effect of indoctrinating environments and peer group pressure in personal interview with macab rock icon Marilyn Manson. He ambushes then NRA President Charlton Heston under false pretenses to blame the NRA, blames a local missile maker, and mocks home gun protection as he weaves an unbelievably stupid tale that blames everything for Columbine, except the murderers themselves. Marilyn Manson made the news with the tragic event when his music was found in the homes of Columbine murderers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. Manson's group, who made their name in the late '80s with professionally adopted stage names that incorporated famous female first names and infamous murderer surnames (Manson [Charles]), Berkowitz [David]), Bundy [Ted], Speck [Richard], and Lucas [Henry Lee], cut most of their 1994 debut album at the house where the infamous Charles Manson "family" committed the Tate murders. With song titles such as, "The Death Son," "In the Shadow of Death," "Irresponsible Hate," "Kill, Kill, Kill," "King Kill," "Lucy in the Sky with Demons," "Misery Machine," "President Dead," "Scabs, Guns, and Peanut Butter," and "Slutgarden," it's hard to say which message or combination of them served to inspire Klebold and Harris' deeds.

Nevertheless, brain-dead Moore says Manson's death-wish message was no more influential than a bowling class the two took the morning before they systematically murdered four-teen Columbine students and a teacher April 20, 1999. "Why wasn't anyone blaming bow-ling for warping the minds of Eric and Dylan to commit their evil deeds?" Moore asks mockingly. "Wasn't that just as plausible as blaming Marilyn Manson?"

Follow-up investigations dis-closed Harris and Klebold planned their massacre over the course of a year, gathering weapons, drawing maps, and choosing the best time of day.

Thou Shalt Not "Murder"
...like the man who "shot" the gun...

It's about time someone brought up what the Bible has to say about gun control. Lunatics like Moore and the thugs who've ruled America's streets over the past forty years certainly need to hear it.
First of all, the Bible does not teach, "thou shalt not kill." The Hebrew word translated "kill" in the King James version, ratsach (raw-tsakh'), literally means murder. The New American Standard Bible and other literal contemporaneus translations convey it as such. When the most famous  conscientious objector in U.S. history was given a furlough from training to examine his "thou shalt not kill" interpretation of the Sixth Commandment, he reconciled himself to his position as a U.S. Army Infantrymen. Once in the trenches, Alvin York earned the medal of honor for killing twenty-five enemy soldiers (and capturing 132) who were killing his company while penned down. In after-action report interviews York said he did it to save lives. This is why the Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms among its private citizenry: to save lives.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Sergeant York learned that killing a tyrant breaking and entering another's country is not murder. The same is true for the home. In his recently published article in Canada Free Press, "Doctors Kill More People Per Year than Guns," Nathan Tabor cites a 1988-1993 survey that showed personal home defense gun ownership probably saved 400,000 American lives during that period. These were innocent, law-abiding lives that could have been snuffed out by bad guys toting black market or straw purchased guns.

"The National Self-Defense Survey," says Tabor, "found that between 1988 and 1993, American civilians used firearms in self-defense almost 2.5 million times per year, saving up to 400,000 lives per year in the process."

And, Tabor says, "less than 1 percent of all guns are involved in any type of crime, which means that 99 percent of all guns are NOT used to commit any crime."

"Thou Shalt Not Murder"...

Murder (ratsach) in ancient Israel could be premeditated or accidental. For the proven premeditated, the sentence was death. Justice was also swift. The testimony of two or three witnesses could convict or acquit and accused violator on the day of the offence. And sentence was served within hours, not years. No slick ambulance chasers with time to stack a jury or intimidate through liberal public opinion. No evidentiary loopholes. And it scared the hell out of potential offenders when they knew the executioner was waiting for taking another's life.

If wrongful death was proven accidental, the convicted was deemed a mansalughterer (establishing the foundation of modern manslaughter laws), and was free to flee to one of Israel's cities of refuge. If he left the confines of the city, the blood avenger (relative of the deceased) was free to hunt and avenge (eye for eye, tooth for tooth). If Israel's high priest died while a convicted manslaughterer was confined in a city of refuge, he was free to return home (Exodus 21:24-25; Numbers 35:25,26).

"...Yes, brother, but that was under the
Old Testament, today we're under the New..."

This is true. But the New Testament didn't rewrite Old Testament criminal law. Jesus said, "...until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished" (Matthew 5:18). "Heaven and earth will pass away" (be recreated), in Revelation 21:1. Until then, sin will need to be reckoned with. Paul wrote: "...law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching"(1 Timothy 1:8-10).

Today a committed follower of Jesus is obliged to turn a cheek, love their enemy, and pray for those who despitefully use them (Matthew 5:38-48). Forgiving and visiting a relative's murderer in prison and even converting them to Christ are both Christian choices of the spiritually enlightened. But none of this changes the dignity of life. As Alvin York discovered, when life is threatened by an oppressive murderer, it isn't murder to protect your life.

Despite the toughest gun control laws in the world, England's firearms ban today simply isn't working. British citizens like Tony Martin who refuse to surrender their hand guns and rifles for personal protection can lawfully share prison cell space with Britain's criminal element. Thank God the reverse is still true here in America where programs like "Project Exile" and "Project Safe Neighborhoods" seek to jail criminals for gun possession, not our law abiding citizens who can still legally own a gun.

Understanding the temporal nature of Executive privilege, the Bush Administration   released a memo, "Bush Lawyers Target Gun Control Legal Rationale," in defense of responsible U.S. gun ownership. Striking while the iron was still hot, six crime-ridden citizens in America's "gun for criminals only" gun-controlled capital recently challenged their liberal government's stolen Second Admendment firearms protection rights and won in appeal.  Bucking it up to the Supreme Court, the "guns for only criminals" camp lost in an unpresedented 2008 Supreme Court Decision that backed up the Second Amendments stated right (see Justices Reject D.C. Ban On Handgun Ownership; Supreme Court Rules Individuals Have Right to Bear Arms; and  D.C. Votes New Gun Restrictions Into Law). So nine years after the writing of this article, there is great hope for this freedom as America moves on! No doubt the regulatory guidance written into the decision will be manipulated by liberal federal judges as the precedent is applied nationwide. But the precedent is now there and leaves little wiggle room (see Another setback for gun grabbers  Court to remedy D.C.'s 'miscarriage of justice').

America will always have liberal legislators calling for the disarming of law-abiding citizens when murders kill with guns. The recent targeting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords that killed 6 and wounded 13 (the congresswoman survived a head shot, thank God) inspired way out there liberal California Senator Barbra Boxer to again call for Brain-dead gun control that would leave only murderers with guns (see http://latimesblogs.latimes.com / lanow/2011/01/sen-boxer-calls-for-tougher-federal-gun-laws-in-wake-of-arizona-shooting.html. Thank God the country now recognizes the mental illness in politicians like Boxer whose 2011 call for “guns for criminals only” will  hit a few headlines, then fade away.

I sometimes wonder whatever happened to the "man who shot the gun" in that tragic morning talk show New York City convenience store video. I was just trying to get a look at Alaska. One thing is for sure, he will always be at large in the "guns for criminals only" camp. His gun that does the killing (not him) will usually be stolen or purchased from other thugs. It won't be registered. And it certainly won't have trigger locks.
